Assam - Banaspaty Estate, Organic & Fair-Trade - WS
In the northeastern state of Assam in India, along the Brahmaputra River grow the hearty, malty Assam teas. The heavy rainfall and hot, humid day time temperatures in this area create the perfect green house like environment for growth, as well as helping to create the unique taste found only in Assam teas. Their distinct flavor can be enjoyed "as is"; however, Assam teas are often used in conjunction with other teas to create numerous blends, specifically breakfast teas.
Banaspaty is a certified organic and fair trade estate that is situated in the Karbi Anglong tribal district of Assam, close to the state of Nagaland. This estate is not far from the world famous Kaziranga Rhino Sanctuary. A visit to the local weekly marketplace is a remarkable experience where local people offer indigenously crafted ethnic products.
The Banaspaty Estate is known for producing high quality orthodox teas. We're thrilled to offer this FTGFOP1 tea that brews to a copper colored cup with a brisk, malty taste that is full flavored and smooth. Destined to become a favorite, you'll love sipping this delightful Assam throughout the day.
Brew tea at 212º - steep for 3 minutes.
Assam teas complement foods such as chocolate, spiced desserts, meat, strong cheeses, fish and more.

My first black tea from S&V. I was pleased with the rich, hearty flavor and smoothness. I'm used to assams that are more bitter, but this one impressed. I like the slightly citrus aftertaste too.
Wow, why didn't I order this last time? I drink 90% Assam or blended black tea. This tea immediately hit me with a noticeable chocolate flavor - I even went back and made sure I didn't accidentally brew the wrong tea! I'm not always one to get all the hints and notes other get, as I use sweetener and cream, but this was hard to miss! This tea has a delightful smooth Assam flavor that I love. It now ranks very high in my top 5. This is a definite reorder, and I have to do some more taste-testing, but it might rank as one of my favorite Assams of all time.
I've been trying some S&V Assams. So far, this is my top choice with Tonganagaon a very close second. I find the flavor of Banaspaty rich and smooth with a plesantly dry finish. With a caveat that technical tea terms continue to elude me, I'll review Tonganagaon as well, if you're interested.
This tea is always on the list to be ordered as we drink more of it than any of our other black teas. Stands up well to milk, taste good cold just a good strong smooth tea.
I only drink, and like, Assam tea. I tried this a few months ago and it is truly wonderful. Strong but slightly sweet (?) . Good with some sugar and cream.
