Assam - Behali Estate Black Tea - WS
Assam - Behali Estate Black Tea - WS
In the northeastern state of Assam in India, along the Brahmaputra River grow the hearty, malty Assam teas. The heavy rainfall and hot, humid day time temperatures in this area create the perfect green house like environment for growth, as well as helping to create the unique taste found only in Assam teas. Their distinct flavor can be enjoyed "as is"; however, Assam teas are often used in conjunction with other teas to create numerous blends, specifically breakfast teas.
Behali was established in 1988 under the Majuli Tea Company. Located between the foothills of the Himalayas and the Brahmaputra river, Behali is in the Sonitpur district of Assam. This beautiful estate hosts remarkable scenic beauty.
The black OP styled tea is interspersed with golden tips and brews to a full-bodied amber cup with a deep malty flavor.
Brew tea at 212º - steep for 3 minutes.

I am really enjoying this first class Assam. It was surprising to see how young of an estate Behali is. Rich maltiness is what I look for, as I do not use sweeteners or dairy products, I drink all tea "neat:". Thanks to S.&V. for making this available. There are only a handful of companies that stock top quality Assam teas. A solid five star tea.
I have tried this tea for a few times and it is remarkably unremarkable. Decent taste, if a bit tannic without a lot of maltiness. It is is one of the more expensive Assams SV tea carries which I do not understand since it is conventional, non-organic and a low grade (OP). A disappointing addition to the line-up, but there are still a few good choices left.
