In the northeastern state of Assam in India, along the Brahmaputra River grow the hearty, malty Assam teas. The heavy rainfall and hot, humid day time temperatures in this area create the perfect green house like environment for growth, as well as helping to create the unique taste found only in Assam teas. Their distinct flavor can be enjoyed "as is"; however, Assam teas are often used in conjunction with other teas to create numerous blends, specifically breakfast teas.

A delicious Assam! This small estate is located in Northeast India near the Namdapha National Park, which is recognized as one of India's richest areas of biodiversity. The medium-black, slightly tippy leaves brew to a medium amber cup with a delightful, well-bodied malty taste.

Brew tea at 212º - steep for 3 minutes.

Assam teas complement foods such as chocolate, spiced desserts, meat, strong cheeses, fish and more.

Love on second cup.

A review from 2016 described this Assam as too strong, just opposite of my first reaction--too weak, nice looking but unduely modest. Interesting perhaps, if only it would speak up. So today day I really heaped the measure scoop, and boy was I glad that I did. It was full of good, Assam flavor from start to finish. The dicrepency I guess was simply due to different harvests. I really look forward having some more tomorrow. If you love Assams, please get to know this one. Especially if you favor the astringency of Darjeelings. To me, this one was astringent like most S&V Darjeelings that I favor. It's a little bit much for me, but for the flavor, it's not too far over the top.

Pairs beautifully with food

Beautiful tea for my little Afternoon Tea Parties! I bake often. This tea goes so well with food, especially my sweet treats. Guests ask for more; best Assam Ive ever had (plus organic). I would order again.

Mellow and Malty

This tea was light (for a black tea) and slightly malty. It had a slightly nutty finish. Perfect any time of day tea.

One of the finest of SV Assams

By now I have tried all of the SV Assams and this is one of the best. One way to judge is to taste the 2nd pouring and beyond. For the Tonganagaon it comes out with excellent flavour (and compares favourably to the Kopili which is great on the 1st pouring, but loses most of its flavour on the 2nd). I am just drinking a half cup 3rd pouring and its still quite acceptable. I haven't tried it 'against' the Harmutty which was out of stock when I ordered, but that would be an interesting comparison.

A fine example of a perfect assam!

I love a delicious assam and this is one of them. A nice organic tea -- mostly black leaves with hints of gold. Once brewed, the cup has the fragrance of one of those tomato soup type tea flavors that I sometimes find in assams. Somehow it is only in the wafting fragrance of the tea and not the flavor itself. Instead, the flavor is malty and savory at the forefront but then switches to a lovely thirst quenching quality that reminds me of fruit. This assam has many layers and I like those layers. The brew color with the sun shining through the clear mug is a deep burgundy. I don't think this one gets bitter. A great example of a tasty assam. Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for a full mug // 13 minutes after boiling // 3 minute steepSteep #2 // couple minutes after boiling // 4 minute steep
