Black Currant Black Tea - WS
Black Currant Black Tea - WS
(Ribes nigru) Black Currants are the fruit from the perennial Ribes plant and are enjoyed for their taste and their high Vitamin content. Originally native to northern Europe, Black currants are cultivated today in many areas. These berries, in addition to being enjoyed on their own, are found in many jellies, syrups and cordials. They are also a great accompaniment in sauces for savory dishes.
The flavor of Black Currants is tart with a slight touch of sweetness, they have a pungent, musky flavor. This blend brews to a bright amber cup with the distinctive tart, sweet black currant taste.
Ingredients: Black teas, blackberry leaves and black currant flavoring.
Brew tea at 212º - steep for 3 minutes.

This black currant tea is nice. It has a pleasant aroma and flavor best described as jam like. It has a very noticeable fruit tang to it. For me it's actually more on the tart side rather than sweet, thus I prefer it it with cream and sugar.
My british husband loves black currant, apparently they don't sell the real deal here in America, I just did some research to see if I could find some dried black currants to try and add to this tea blend so he will drink it. Zante currants are not real black currants otherwise I'd order them here. Anyhow, this tea just isn't what he was hoping for. If you've never had real black currant tea you won't be unhappy but since we have, well, we are.
Far better than the black currant bagged teas I've had. This is less tart and more sweet, maybe a little bit raisiny. Just go easy on the sugar, since it's already sweet as-is.
