Nilgiri Korakundah Estate - Organic FOP/FBOP - WS
This organic tea comes from the Korakundah Estate in the Nilgiri region of southern India. The estate, founded in the early 1900's, sits at 8000 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest tea gardens in the world. Certified organic, fair trade, bio-dynamic and rain forest alliance, Korakundah has a strong history of producing quality teas.
This black tea is a mix of FOP (flowery orange pekoe) and FBOP (flowery broken orange pekoe) leaves with a forest, oaky aroma in the dry leaf. It brews to a golden amber cup with a smooth, sweet, slightly floral taste. A perfect all day drinking tea!

If Pu-erh and Yunnan had a baby it would be Nilgiri. It has the rich dark slightly sweet tone of Pu-erh lightened up with the deep brisk complexity of a Yunnan without a hint of bitterness. Nilgiri is the best of both worlds and makes a great tea either hot or iced.
Had never tried a Nilgiri before this. Really enjoyed it, and found it to be quite distinct from both Ceylon and Assam teas. Not as full bodied or malty as an Assam; more similar in body to a Ceylon, but distinct in character and flavor. So affordable too; well worth a try.
Floral and definitely Orange Pekoe. The flavor reminds me of S&V Ceylon Orange Pekoe, but this is lless brassy and more toward woody. That's something I prefer. To my taste the woody, floral tones are especially noticable after the tea reaches room temperature. So I'll be trying it as an iced tea as well.
This tea is excellent all on its own, no add-ins required or suggested! It has a nice strong but smooth body with a slight sweetness.
Love this tea for kombucha. Started using it when I first got into making kombucha, tried to use other black teas but went back to the niligiri.
