Located in South Asia, and bordered by China and India, Nepal is home to some of the largest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest which is the highest point anywhere on Earth. Nepal is comprised of 75 districts, one of which is the district of Dhankuta. Dhankuta is located in the Koshi hill Zone in eastern Nepal. It borders the Darjeeling region of West Bengal, India, and enjoys the same soil and climatic conditions as Darjeeling.

This estate takes its name from the national flower of Nepal: the Rhododendron (in Nepali gurans). The Guranse Tea Estate offers exquisite 100% organic tea from the verdant hills of Eastern Nepal in Hile, Dhankuta. The Estate, located at an altitude between 3300 and 7200 feet above sea level, is a perfect stopover for visitors who like to sip fragrant orthodox tea and feast their eyes on the abundant greenery of the rolling hills Nepal has to offer. It is probably the highest tea garden in the world producing premium organic quality tea. These hills provide just the right combination of sun, shade and rain conducive to the production of the wholesome goodness of Guranse Tea with its rich 'muscatel' flavor incomparable to any other tea.

Guranse Tea Estate has planted pure young and vibrant clonal plants all selected to make high quality teas. At Guranse they believe in only producing the best, therefore, their tea goes through a series of careful processes before it is packed and finally ends up in your cup for an entirely new experience of health and vitality. Guranse is NASAA organic certified, JAS certified, and ISO 9001:2000 certified.

Picked and processed by hand, the medium-sized twisted leaves produce a pale greenish cup with a fresh garden aroma and a light vegetal taste.

Brew tea at 175º - steep for 2 minutes.

An agreeable green

On my first sip, I thought the tea was strong, but I found the smoky aroma intriguing and enjoyed the smooth mouthfeel, light body, and mellow aftertaste. I prefer a shorter steep time on my first infusion (1m45s) than my other greens (2-3min), and re-steep the leaves for 1 or 2 more cups. While not a flavor I choose to drink daily, I did find myself selecting it once or twice a week. Worth a try, especially if you like the flavor of S&V's Darjeeling Green but prefer a less dry tea.
