From the mountainous region of Colombia, in an area steeped in biodiversity, along the western slope of the Andes, is the Bitaco tea estate. The gentle mist from the mountains, rich soil, and ample rainfall all stimulate the growth of the tea bushes, producing a tea with unique characteristics.

Bitaco Tea owns over 200 acres of tea plants that are cultivated at over 6,000 feet above sea level in the region of Choco. This region enjoys a high rainfall and has exceptional biodiversity. The tea gardens are located next to a thriving, protected rain forest, the Bitaco Regional Forest Reserve, where there is a wide diversity of flora and fauna: 256 bird species, 28 amphibian species, 23 reptile species and 772 species of plants. The garden, located near the Equator, enjoys a consistent climate which results in a bountiful production of tasty, delicate tea-tips that are picked and processed throughout the year.

Bitaco Tea not only cultivates exceptional teas, they also are committed to their community. They created the Agricola Himalaya Foundation to develop and improve programs focusing on education, especially for local children. Activities focus on the improvement of infrastructure, recreational opportunities, local culture and access to technology. 

This tea is a blend of Bitaco Colombian Black Tea with Cacao husk and nibs. The cacao comes from local cooperatives and small producers from the Tumaco region of Colombia, who produce a varietal of the finest and most aromatic cocoas in the world. The perfectly crafted blend creates a unique flavor experience. The tea imparts a mellow chocolate taste and aroma that pairs well with the black tea base. This tea blend took top prize in the flavored hot tea competition at the Global Tea Championships 2017.

Ingredients: Colombian black tea and cacao.

Brew tea at 212º - steep for 3 minutes.

This tea smells divine in the bag. Once brewed, the cacao notes are there, but subtle. Think of this like one of those fancy pants unflavored 'single origin' teas that mention notes of this and that. Only with this tea, they're pretty much guarantea-d. ;-> How much is up to your particular taste buds. If you're a flavored tea drinker making your first forays into this uncharted land, this tea is a good gateway drug...LOL. As one of the other reviewers pointed out, the base tea is quite lovely. If you've been drinking a lot of crap flavored tea, you might be used to getting what looks like ground up tea. I was, and marveled at the beauty of some of the long leaf teas. I just now brewed a cup of this and after stirring, a leaf clung to my spoon that was a good 2 1/2" long. I think I won the leaf length lottery! And yes, I'm writing this review now because I'm back to order another bag. And yes, I still use alt sweetener and a splash of cream with this... I can't imagine cocoa without it. ;-> So I'm not quite a tea snob yet.

The Cacao Kisses Columbian Black Tea is an excellent quality of black tea, as well as, a delicious accompaniment to the cacao beans that are blended in. The black tea is the predominant flavor with a subtle cacao warmth in the background.

I've been enjoying this with milk and sugar, but I think it would also be interesting to try straight. The cacao flavor shines through but doesn't overwhelm.

One of the Best I've Had

This is one of my favorite teas, if not my favorite. The cacao adds a wonderful subtle note that pairs perfectly with the tea. I was expecting this to be good and I was blown away at just how good it is!

Colombian Cacao

I think the name for this blend is perfect and pretty much encompasses what this tea tastes like. It really does taste like the tea was delicately kissed by a cacao pod. I feel like the usual malty notes of the Colombian tea is actually further enhanced in this blend. That being said, out of all the Colombian tea blends, I think this one is the most subtle in flavor differences.

Fabulous afternoon tea

I naively expected a 'chocolaty' tea of sorts, but was pleasantly surprised by the subtleness of the cocoa note that is imparted to this tea. First off, it's a beautiful looking tea with large leaves, and it brews to a delightful cup with a unique aroma, unlike anything you've had before. A perfect cup of tea for the afternoon!
