Don Hilario Coffee
Don Hilario Coffee
Over 200 years ago the Bourbon Arabica bean was planted in the rich, volcanic mountains of the Santa Ana region of western El Salvador. Around 1876 Don Hilario Menendez began harvesting this sought after single-bean coffee. It became the exclusive botanical variety of coffee tree growing on the Don Hilario Estate.
Today his grandson, Gerardo Menendez, carries on the tradition of Don Hilario's labor of love by continuing to hand-pick and select only the best cherries on the family plantation. This time honored procedure results in one of the most highly rated coffee beans in the world.

I thought this coffee was alright. The taste was darker than I expected, fairly bitter. I'm used to Italian roast coffees, and I thought this was a little too strong. I wouldn't get this again. There are too many other great coffees to get here instead.
I am just beginning to branch out and try S&V coffees in addition to their delicious teas. This coffee has a rich mellow flavor with hints of fruit and vanilla that leaves me wanting another cup. I highly recommend this coffee!
I enjoyed getting to try the Don Hilario Coffee as it has an interesting hint of fruit flavoring. I'm supposing this is in part to the the sun dried method used for drying the coffee cherries.
My husband and I have been fortunate in that we have tasted many different coffees from around the world. Don Hilario is the best!
I bought a sampler package of coffees and this is the first one I tried, I used the pour over method and ground the whole beans myself with my new grinder. It turned out very delicious, not too dark, not at all bitter and very smooth tasting. I would buy these beans again!
