Caffeinated Comfort: Fall Coffee Recipes

Simpson & Vail's Cinnamon Hazelnut Latte -

This recipe highlights the nutty, toasted notes of the Simpson & Vail Cinnamon Hazelnut coffee in a creamy, comforting latte. It's a simple, elegant way to enjoy a flavored coffeehouse-style drink at home.

Yields: 1 serving Prep time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (4 fl oz) of strong-brewed Simpson & Vail Cinnamon Hazelnut Coffee

  • 1 cup (8 fl oz) of milk (dairy, oat, almond, etc.)

  • Sweetener of choice, to taste (e.g., sugar, honey, maple syrup)

  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or crushed hazelnuts

Instructions:

  1. Brew the Coffee:

    • Brew a strong batch of Simpson & Vail Cinnamon Hazelnut Coffee using your preferred method (drip coffee maker, French press, or pour-over).

    • For a stronger flavor that stands up to the milk, use a little more coffee grounds than you normally would.

  2. Heat and Froth the Milk:

    • In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it's steaming but not boiling.

    • For a traditional latte, use a steam wand, a handheld frother, or a French press to froth the milk until it's light and foamy. You can also simply whisk it vigorously with a wire whisk.

  3. Assemble the Latte:

    • Pour the brewed cinnamon hazelnut coffee into your favorite mug.

    • Add your desired amount of sweetener and stir until it dissolves.

    • Pour the frothed milk over the coffee. Use a spoon to hold back the foam and add the hot milk first, then spoon the foam on top.

  4. Garnish and Serve:

    • Add your optional toppings, such as a dollop of whipped cream, a dusting of cinnamon, or a few crushed hazelnuts for extra texture and flavor.

    • Serve immediately and enjoy the warm, nutty aroma.

Literary Brews: A Sip of Spooky Classics

The best way to get in the mood for the spooky season is to curl up with a good book and a warm cup of S&V tea. For centuries, authors have crafted tales that chill us to the bone and we’re pairing those timeless stories with teas that are just as hauntingly good.

Mary Shelley's Green Tea Blend:

This heavenly blend brews up to a golden color with a sweet fruit taste and an undertone of chocolate that will elevate your taste buds. Inspired by Shelley's eloquent words in Frankenstein, "I feel my heart glow with an enthusiasm which elevates me to heaven".

Ingredients: Green tea, (organic) cacao nibs, sweet blackberry leaf, chocolate flavor, and blackberry flavor.

Brew tea at 180º - steep for 2-3 minutes.

Pair with: Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, The Last Man, Valperga, and/or Mathilda

Edgar Allan Poe's Black Tea Blend:

This dark, earthy blend evokes the damp tombs of Poe's stories. While it is perhaps the most well known, The Cask of Amontillado is not Poe's only story in which his fear of being buried alive becomes a major plot point. His vivid descriptions of "utter darkness among a quantity of loose earth" that "threaten[ed] to bury [him] entirely" offered a direction for our blend. It combines the earthy tones of Pu'erh black with the mellow smokiness of Lapsang and the slightest citrus hint of an Earl Grey. The dried beetroot turns the brewed tea a deep blood red.

Ingredients: Black teas, pu'erh tea, lapsang souchong tea, beetroot and bergamot oil.

Brew tea at 212º - steep for 3 minutes

Pair with: The Cask of Amontillado, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red Death, The Raven, and/or The Tell Tale Heart.
