Definitely should have bough a bigger package! The only reason I only gave 4 stars is because it was just a tad bit too sweet. Definitely a new favorite.
I had been hooked on another brand of vanilla matcha, but once I tried Simpson & Vail's version, there was no going back. I'll be happily using this vanillla matcha for my lattes going forward.
This vanilla flavored matcha is extraordinary! The aroma is like a pillowy marshmallow. It smells so good in the bag and in your cup. It's a very sweet & strong vanilla flavor which I absolutely love. Out of all the flavored matcha, this one is the sweetest, making for a very lush dessert tea. I would even recommend mixing it with other teas or coffee for a layered latte!
I bought a little of this a while ago. So not exactly a review for a fresh tea, but I imagine it still tastes similar. I've had a few matchas before. This one arrives in a nice solid zip pouch. The matcha looks less like the tiny green powder of a typical matcha and more like a tiny pearl. It looks like CTC tea but green in color. I would imagine this is the additional sugar with the matcha. But this is cane sugar so a much better sugar than it could have been. And YES this stuff sure is sweet! S&V says to use an entire tablespoon for 6-8 ounces of water but that seems like too much for me. So I waited a half hour for my tea kettle water to cool from boiling and I probably used a teaspoon and a half which also seems like too much ( I add the matcha to a mug and stir while pouring the water -- not the official way of preparing matcha but good enough for me). The flavor is certainly sweet but also noticeably french vanilla. Of course flavor from the green matcha is also there, so it's a nice balance of sweet and earthy. I like it! It's good to have for a healthy sweet treat. Being organic, in a nice pouch and only $3.50 for an ounce (much cheaper than other matcha), this is definitely a worthy purchase. I'll definitely be trying this different ways... I know I can't go wrong preparing this.
